Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) encourages people to embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or feeling guilty for them.
We are joined by Janne Spaan who is a BA Social Work, ACT Counsellor and a Relationship Therapist.
She helped us understand what ACT is and the pillars of ACT are. We also discuss how ACT isn’t just a therapy tool but also a lifestyle and a self-practice tool that can help you so much in being confident and accepting your faults and turning them into power.
During the conversation we also provide you with some practice tips you can do by yourself.

Podcast Episode: Managing Anger Responses
Wednesday Dec 22, 2021
Wednesday Dec 22, 2021
Anger is a completely normal, usually healthy, human emotion. But when it gets out of control and turns destructive, it can lead to problems problems at work, in your personal relationships, and in the overall quality of your life. And it can make you feel as though you're at the mercy of an unpredictable and powerful emotion.
Anger is "an emotional state that varies in intensity from mild irritation to intense fury and rage. The instinctive, natural way to express anger is to respond aggressively. Anger is a natural, adaptive response to threats; it inspires powerful, often aggressive, feelings and behaviors, which allow us to fight and to defend ourselves when we are attacked. A certain amount of anger, therefore, is necessary to our survival.
In todays episode we will provide you tips on better identifying the underlying emotion of anger.
The three main approaches are expressing, suppressing, and calming. Expressing your angry feelings in an assertive, not aggressive, manner is the healthiest way to express anger. To do this, you have to learn how to make clear what your needs are, and how to get them met, without hurting others. Being assertive doesn't mean being pushy or demanding; it means being respectful of yourself and others.

Podcast Episode: Communication: a Two-Way Process
Wednesday Dec 08, 2021
Wednesday Dec 08, 2021
Effective communication is about more than just exchanging information. It’s about understanding the emotion and intentions behind the information. As well as being able to clearly convey a message, you need to also listen in a way that gains the full meaning of what’s being said and makes the other person feel heard and understood.
Effective communication sounds like it should be instinctive. But all too often, when we try to communicate with others something goes astray. We say one thing, the other person hears something else, and misunderstandings, frustration, and conflicts ensue. This can cause problems in your home, school, and work relationships.
For many of us, communicating more clearly and effectively requires learning some important skills. Whether you’re trying to improve communication with your spouse, kids, boss, or coworkers, learning these skills can deepen your connections to others, build greater trust and respect, and improve teamwork, problem solving, and your overall social and emotional health.
In todays episode we will discuss the role of a speaker and listener, the key component to being a good speaker and a good listener. What is active listening, body language and more.
